The
Newport Transporter Bridge is one of the last remaining structures of its kind.
Unlike other bridges, users do not cross on foot or by vehicle but are carried ('transported') across on a platform ('gondola') suspended from the overhead lattice bridge.
Nowadays, visitors can also travel across on the gondola or, for the more daring, climb the towers to walk across the bridge deck more than 50m above the river.
