The strike was in protest against reform of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) as well as working conditions. It was organised by the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU).
The university's students supported staff on strike.
To highlight the continuing struggle for workers' rights, staff and students found a common bond with members of the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign.
